Daniel Poynter studied philosophy and graduated from Purdue University in 2008. The MacArthur Foundation named him a Young Innovator in 2009
While a student Daniel created the Purdue CIA -- a collective of installation artists. The group organized projects to "alter public space." PBS Frontline showed video of CIA's 2007 flashmob to over 5 million people.
Daniel also led a team which won $7,000 in the 2008 Purdue Burton Morgan Business Plan Competition. The team used the money to create GNIC. GNIC creates competitions in which people use the internet as a mental prosthetic. Universities like Brown, Cornell and Northwestern hosted GNIC's first competition -- the Digital Literacy Contest.
GNIC's second product is free for teachers, and it helps students navigate government information on sites like OpenSecrets and OpenCongress. It's called the Digital Democracy Contest, and it's the result of a collaboration with the Sunlight Foundation.
